Sacraments
BAPTISM
Baptize derives from the Greek “baptizein” which means “to immerse”, “to introduce into the water”. The “immersion” in water symbolizes the act of burying the catechumen in the death of Christ, from where he emerges through the resurrection with Him transformed into a “new creature.”
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and regenerated as children of God, we become members of Christ and are incorporated into the Church, made participants in his mission.
These are the dates for the year 2024.
- July 13, at 12:00 p.m.
- September 14, at 12:00 p.m.
- December 14, at 12:00 p.m.
If the dates are not suitable for a family, you can contact the parish to arrange another day.
RECONCILIATION
The sacrament of Penance, Reconciliation, or Confession, is the sacrament instituted by Jesus Christ, through which all sins committed after baptism are forgiven, all of them are absolved by God through the priest, offering the believer a new opportunity conversion, purification and a life full of grace.
Every day, in the Cathedral, there are priests to attend to the spiritual needs of the people.
During the course, several community penances are celebrated in the parish.
FIRST COMMUNION
The Greek word Eucharistia means “thanksgiving.” The Eucharist is the consecration of the bread in the Body of Christ and of the wine in his Blood that renews the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross.
It is real Jesus, present in the bread and wine that the priest consecrates. By faith we believe that the presence of Jesus in the bread and wine is not only symbolic but real. It is the mystery of transubstantiation, since what changes is the substance of the bread and wine; while the accidents – shape, colour, flavour – remain the same.
To celebrate the sacrament of first communion it is necessary to be enrolled in the catechesis process.
The first communion celebrations are in May. The group of catechists sets the dates each year.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the sacrament that completes baptism, because it confirms and reinforces the grace of God, which we had received in him. The baptized person is strengthened with the gift of the Holy Spirit.
It is the sacrament of Christian maturity and makes us capable of being witnesses of Christ.
The dates of the confirmation celebrations vary each year. To celebrate the sacrament of confirmation, contact the different processes of the parish.
MARRIAGE
Marriage is the alliance by which a man and a woman unite freely for life in order to help each other, procreate and educate their sons and daughters.
This union, based on love, implies full consent and is blessed by God. Being sacramental, it makes the conjugal bond for life and no one can break this bond.
To celebrate a marriage, the couple must contact the parish and arrange a date and time.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
This sacrament confers on the Christian a special grace to face the difficulties of a serious illness or old age.
In it, the church joins the sick to commend him before Jesus Christ, asking for his salvation, helping to strengthen his soul, and preventing him from falling into despair.
People who want continued care can request it at the parish office or call during office hours (T. 943 464 516), giving their name, address and telephone number.
COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS: Celebration of the Anointing of the Sick, towards Pentecost.
FUNERALS
From Monday to Friday, at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturdays and the eve of holidays, at 6:30 p.m.
Families must contact the parish to arrange the day and time of the funeral.
“I am the good shepherd. As the Father knows me and I know the Father, in the same way I know my sheep and they know me. And I am willing to die for them.”
John 10, 14-15
HELP US
The temple is God’s house and ours. Let’s collaborate to keep it worthy. If you wish to collaborate in the conservation of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd of San Sebastian or in its activities, make a donation.
Self-financing is the challenge that we Catholics take on, because the maintenance of our community is in our hands. This is done through subscription, which is convenient, stable and deducts taxes in the Income Tax Return.
